NDS Surgical Imaging Acquires Dome Imaging; Combination Creates
the Leader in Medical Visualization Informatics

SAN JOSE, Calif. — August 6, 2008 — NDS Surgical Imaging (“NDSsi”) of San Jose, California, announced the acquisition of Dome Imaging Systems (“Dome”), the medical business unit of Planar Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLNR).  Dome manufactures innovative medical display products for diagnostic imaging and patient care applications. Dome’s customers include global Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) OEM suppliers and leading medical Information Technology (IT) resellers to healthcare providers.

“Bringing together these two respected global leaders in medical visualization provides a wealth of technology for advanced informatics solutions, enabling the clinician to better diagnose and treat patients in both Radiology and Surgical environments.  The combined entity now has the unique capability to connect the realms of PACS imaging and surgical video/informatics, delivering valuable innovation to the radiology reading room and the operating room alike,” explained John Murphy, President and Chief Executive Officer of NDSsi.  “Our combined capabilities will enhance our OEM customers’ and the practitioners’ clinical confidence in the development and use of new medical visualization applications.”

“Dome products are a natural complement to the NDSsi line of surgical visualization solutions sold to OEMs serving healthcare providers,” said Brent Michael, Director of Sales for Dome. “This combination blankets the market with two experienced and complementary healthcare organizations that will continue to serve their unique marketing channels worldwide, without overlap or disruption in any facet of the business operations.”

“We are very excited about the strategic fit between NDSsi and Planar’s Medical Business Unit, Dome Imaging.  We have been aware of Dome’s stellar reputation for high quality medical displays and related technologies for a number of years.  The management teams of both companies are extremely compatible and the combined companies are poised for significant future growth,” said David Belluck, a General Partner at Riverside Partners and Chairman of the Board at NDSsi.
